Finally! Kris and I were able to schedule a golf outing on stream. Earlier this year, fourish months ago, we played a casual round together along with a couple other mutual friends and I got to show off some of my stream highlights. Interest was piqued and since then there have been a few unsuccessful meet ups, until now.

While there have been a handful of people to join me onstream (Jacky, Jon, Kevin, and Matt) no one has been around to test out the modularity of the new stream setup. In particular, I was excited to see how the new putting overlay integrated into the production flow. This scene was designed for multiplayer use with a few key features:

  • The individual player name and hole information chiron moves offscreen to prevent the need for overlay switch during putts (often when no one is standing within reach of the switcher).

  • The ball markers smoothly slide to the top left to indicate which stroke each player is taking for their first putt. This means the audience is not left in the dark score wise when the overlays move offscreen.

  • The hole overlay is moved offscreen to allow for a higher field of view. This is to keep the multiple putting positions, and more future putting positions, on screen.

I haven’t yet implimented the auto adjusting shot tracer so I was curious to see how well the shots were traced with multiple people hitting off the same tee without moving the tripod. Ideally, we both teed off from the same spot, but that’s not ideal with imperfect tee boxes. Reviewing the footage, this didn’t seem to be an issue, but I’ll keep working on the new plugin anyway.

Normally I wear earbuds to monitor my the stream and listen to chat. For this setup, Kris brought a blue tooth speaker that we routed all the audio through. It wasn’t until the sixth hole that I realized the audio was probably being doubled up through my mic, which it was. Additionally, it was tough to hear chat and program sounds when away from the push carts. Going forward, I’ll have to figure out a system where multiple players all wear their own earbuds. I think some Samsung phones can have multiple headsets paired and listening to the same audio output.

I have to say, the stream worked pretty spectacularly overall. We both had fun even with a bit of a fall apart score at the end. Kris was great on camera, can’t wait to do it again.
